This course is intended for the well-established clarinet player who is looking to get into the Dixieland (or otherwise known as the Traditional Jazz) style. It has come to my attention that many high school clarinet players, as well as many college classically-trained clarinet players, have a difficult time getting into this  Dixieland tradition. Throughout this short course, I will do my best to provide practical tips and mock practice schedules to get you up and running in no time, but please keep in mind that there are a lot of historical practices you should learn that might make you feel like you are relearning your instrument. Not to be alarmed, most of the knowledge you already know as a classical or band student will help you immensely. Dixieland Jazz is a great place to come into this wonderful genre of music on your principal instrument, the clarinet, is not only welcomed but praised, and the hard work will be worth it, I promise.
